Angela oversees the internal and external communications for a California advocacy organization and its 501(c)(4), 501(c)(3), and PAC entities, and leads political affairs strategies for statewide and regional legislation, electoral, and issue-based campaigns.
In 2009, she founded Chicas Latinas de Sacramento, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, to increase Latina-powered volunteerism, leadership, and civic engagement and serve the local community. Angela led the organization as its founding director for 15 years, “creating a culture of volunteerism and civic engagement in our community, one Latina-powered project at a time.”
She has a B.A. in journalism from CSUS and worked as a multimedia reporter for the Visalia Times-Delta before returning to Sacramento in 2009, taking her devotion to community and change and her knack for storytelling from the newsroom to the people.
Angela Chavez is a former State agency external affairs and media relations communications specialist appointed under Gov. Brown and former director of public affairs at a Sacramento-based firm. There, she consulted on statewide media relations for foundations and nonprofits, including change narratives and equity campaigns, as well as state agency outreach efforts.

Angela Chavez is a former journalist and founding nonprofit executive director, with over 10 years of experience developing issue-based, legislative, and electoral strategic equity campaigns, utilizing digital and ground tactics. She regularly convenes regional, state, and national partners to collaborate and advocate on various issues, including criminal justice reform and public safety, affordable and accessible healthcare, food and housing security, reproductive rights, abortion access, labor rights, media access, voting rights, and more.
